Reed Penney

Reed first discovered Sam Rayburn in 2002 while producing a documentary about Pulitzer Prize winning Lyndon Johnson biographer Robert Caro called Robert Caro: Understanding Power while a student at New York University. Two weeks after graduating from NYU in 2003 Reed began work for the weekly PBS news magazine show NOW with Bill Moyers. Reed left NOW in 2005 to devote more time to producing a documentary about the life and career of Speaker Sam Rayburn. In 2007 he settled down in Austin, TX where he held a variety of odd jobs while continuing to work on Rayburn: Mr. Speaker. In 2014 Reed moved back to New York City where he works as a freelance filmmaker while finishing Rayburn: Mr. Speaker.
